Caring for your …..
Tiara
In order to get the best out of your tiara for the longest time, keep it out of direct sunlight to avoid tainting.
This is most likely to occur on the tiara bands and where there is gold and silver plated wire.
Ideally, keep it wrapped in a soft cloth in an airtight container and in a cool area. Do not cover with heavy objects that might alter its shape.
Avoid spraying with hairspray before the day or perfume.
To clean any tainting, a good quality jewellery cloth would be best used.
Pearls
Freshwater pearls were once alive and growing so you will need to make sure that they stay out of harm and away from hazards.
The most harmful products to a pearl would be perfume, hair spray and cosmetics and face creams which can build up on the pearl and damage the lustre.
Ideally you want to be putting your pearls on last after you’ve applied make-up, body lotions and creams and perfume and make sure you take them off before using cleansers and wipes.
It’s a good idea to clean your pearls every now and then with a soft damp cloth and buff them with a silk cloth which will help maintain and enhance their shine and lustre.
Gemstone Jewellery
Try to keep jewellery items separate from each other so they don’t rub.
Organic gems like pearls, coral and amber should only be wiped clean with a moist cloth. Due to their organic nature these gems are both soft and porous. Be careful about chemicals in hairspray, cosmetics or perfume.
Gems can scratch the finish on your gold, silver or platinum if you throw your jewellery in a heap in a drawer or jewellery box.
Think twice before putting gems in an ultrasonic cleaner – when you’re not sure – DON’T!
